If you haven't read it yet, feel free to pick up a copy and form your own opinion on it. This book was provided to me as an early review copy, however, my opinions are honest and entirely my own.
Spoiler-Free Review:
Awaken is the first book in a new adult fantasy series called The Goddess Incarnate by B.L. Callaghan. It’s a fantasy series that has a lot of mythology-inspired ideas in it. It does a good job of bringing readers into the world without overwhelming them.
Our main character, Sapphira, is a 19-year-old girl who believes that the stories about monsters and supernatural creatures are just made up myths. However, to her surprise, she discovers that she’s one of the most powerful creatures: The Goddess Incarnate. I love that Sapphira stands up for herself throughout the book. She doesn’t just accept the information placed before her, she always questions it.
We pretty much spend the entire story from Sapphira’s perspective which definitely limits the plot development. The world was very well developed with great details being used to describe it. Sapphira’s character was somewhat of a mystery and kept me intrigued the entire time which is a definite plus!
I genuinely enjoyed the plot of this story a lot. I just wish some of the side characters had been better developed. There were definitely a lot of twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat throughout. I’m not sure this story was entirely for me and I don’t know if I’ll continue on with the series. But, this book is great for fans of mythology stories!
